CONTRIBUTOR'S CORNER: MORE MIDDLEBROOK INFORMATION FROM OTHER FAMILY GENEALOGISTS

The following information was generously shared by Cara, a member of the Middlebrook family, who is also interested in preserving the memory of this family name. Eventually, some members of this line left Ontario and moved to Saskatchewan, Canada.

As previously mentioned, John Middlebrook (1792-?) married Hannah Harper (1804-1888) in England, and they had ten children. One of their children, Thomas Middlebrook married Ellen Schell in 1863 in Tosorontio, Simcoe County. Thomas and Ellen had 10 children (see the lineage page for this info)

Thomas and Ellen's eldest son John Middlebrook (1864-1891) married Elisabeth Schell in Gravenhurst 1884 and they settled in the Kilworthy/Gravenhurst area in Morrison Twp.


John and Elisabeth Middlebrook's children:

  1. Ellen (1889-?) married Bill Cook. It is possible that they had 3 children, one being Ray Cook.
  2. William (Bill) (April 11,1891-April 7,1975) married Alma Nettie Granum (Dec. 5,1901-Jan. 29, 1993) in 1918. Their children are:
    1. Elsie Mabel. She married Reg Wright abt. 1946. She remarried John Gunderson in 1994.
    2. Leslie (Les) Clifford. He married Shirley _______.
    3. Kenneth Herbert (Nov. 10, 1929-?). He married Judith Mary Elisabeth Camus(May 14, 1948--) in Dec. 2, 1972.
    4. David (Dave)Collin. He married Donna Brown abt. 1957.
    5. Beatrice. She married Willy Sagen abt. 1946. Beatrice and Bernice were twins. Beatrice died of cancer, date unknown.
    6. Bernice. She married Nort Dillion abt. 1949. (Twin of Beatrice)
    7. Elmer (Also went by Bill) Died of Polio about 1952. He married Ruth Sadman abt. 1946.
    8. Cleva Pauline. Married Victor (Vic) Lindsay abt. 1961.

In 1891 John died, possibly due to a logging accident. Elisabeth was left with 2 small children and eventually she married John James (1866-?), a cousin of John Middlebrook. At this time we are unsure if they were legally married or not. John James and Elisabeth had 6 children. They are:

  1. Joe. Born abt. 1896. He married Nellie_____, from La Ronge, Sask. Their children:
    1. Patsy
    2. Richard
    3. Doreen. She never married and worked as a school teacher. She died of cancer, date unknown.
  2. Harper. Born abt. 1899. He maried Lizzie (Elisabeth) Borstead. Lizzie is related to Alma (Granum) Middlebrook. Their children:
    1. Earl m. 1st_________unknown. 2nd, Helen_________.
    2. Lloyd. Married Mary Smith.
    3. Fern. She married Leon Gobeil. They had about 20 children....whew!!!!!
  3. Jack (1901-). He married Nora Granum (Alma's sister). Their kids:
    1. Doug
    2. Iver. He married Joyce____.
    3. Delia married Wes Scarett.
  4. Eliza. Born about 1904. She first married _____Gains. Second marriage to Norman Irving. Eliza had a daughter (Charlotte) from her first marriage.
  5. Evelyn. Born abt. 1909. She never married or had any children. She took care of her neice Charlotte and raised her as her own daughter. They both moved to British Columbia and Evelyn opened her own store there. Charlotte married and had children.
  6. Cecil. Born abt. 1911. He married Grace Perry. Their kids:
    1. Sylvia
    2. Don't know the name but it was a son.

According to Cara, John James, Elisabeth and their children left Ontario (Haliburton area) and settled around Spruce Home, Sask. near Prince Albert, around 1912. Elisabeth's 2 children from her first marriage also moved there.
