John Middlebrook (1794-1863) married Hannah Harper (1804-1888) in Markham Ontario. They came to Canada and first settled in Markham but later moved to Etobicoke Twp. in the county of York. They had 10 children, all of whom were born here. Their children are:


  1. William Middlebrook (1822-1910) married Jane Pringle (1823-1911) William was a farmer, who in 1871 owned a hundred acres of land in Sunnidale, Simcoe County. He had 1 cow, 2 sheep, 1 pig and they manufactured 100 lbs. of butter and 12 pounds of wool. William could not read or write and he died at his residence in Sunnidale. On his death record it said he was a pioneer. Their children: (All we found)
    1. George (1848-1912) Died in Sunnidale
    2. Elizabeth (1852-1945) Married Henry Stewart in Barrie in 1875. She is buried in Glencairn cemetery.
  2. George Middlebrook (1826-1912) married Mary Daly (1829-1917) in Etobicoke. George and Mary lived in Richview in Etobicoke. All we really know is that George was a farmer on the original family farm and he and his family are buried in Bethel cemetery in Simcoe County. Their children:
    1. John (Aug. 25, 1854-May 10, 1911) m. Lavina Ramage
    2. Mary (1856-1856)
    3. Thomas (April 17,1857-November 13, 1920) married Mary-Anne Banane (d. December 25, 1933) in Etobicoke on February 15, 1882.
    4. George (September 12, 1860-June 27, 1927) married Hannah Truman (July 27, 1866-January 30, 1920) in Malton on January 17, 1883. Hannah died in 1920 of diabetes.
  3. Mary Ann Middlebrook (October 1, 1829- ?) married William Beers (b. 1821) on February 10, 1846.
    1. Mary Jane Beers (August 31, 1850--?) married Benjamin Schell (February 28, 1846) on September 25, 1866
    2. Hannah Jane Beers (b. 1853) married William Kaake (1844-1918) on June 3, 1867
    3. William Beers (1859) married Catherine Eva Rawn (1877)
    4. John Beers (March 11, 1865) married Mary Jane Prentice (1870)
    5. Thomas Beers (1871) married Matilda Prentice
  4. Joshua Middlebrook (1833-?) married Anne (last name?) Joshua and Anne shared a farm with his brother Thomas. He owned 50 acres with a house, barn, wagon, a plough and 5 pigs (he sold 4 of them). Joshua could read but could not write. Almost no records at all could be found on this line. If anyone can add to this let us know.

  5. Joseph Middlebrook (1835-1915) married Charlotte Geddes (1840-1910) Like his brothers, Joseph was a farmer in Simcoe County. On the 1871 census it states Joseph owned 50 acres of land with a house, his family and a pig. Neither Charlotte nor Joseph could read or write and Joseph died in the County house in Simcoe County on March 2, 1915 of heart failure. Their Children are:
    1. Charlotte (1860-?) married John Orr in Sunnidale 1883
    2. Joseph (1861-?) married Emma Kirkland in Cobourg 1884
    3. John (1863-?) married May Bulmer in Essa 1890
    4. Margaret (1868-1938) married Jonas Bush(1855-1923) in Essa 1887
    5. William (1871-?) married Mary-Jane Bain in Essa 1892

    1. Mary Daley (July 14, 1854) married George Middlebrook (b. October 30, 1850)

  7. John Middlebrook (1839-1911) married Annie Adair (1845-1907; their info on 1st page) Their children are:
    1. Harper Middlebrook (1864-1939) married Hannah Middlebrook (1869-1956) in Gravenhurst in 1889.
    2. John James (1866-?) married Emily Honeywell (1862-1911) in Stayner 1889.
    3. Margaret (1869-?) married Hugh Scott in Glencairn 1901.
    4. William (1871-?) married Mary (?last name) Had at least 1 child named Pearl in 1891.
    5. Charlotte (1874-?) married James Henderson in Hamilton 1904
    6. Joseph (1877-?) married Martha Price in Utterson 1904.
    7. Henry (1879-1952) married Ada Cook (1882-1958) in Creemore 1904. They are buried in Glencairn cemetery, along with their 2 daughters Dora (1915-1919) and Ada Marie (1905-1987)
    8. Laura Augustine (1883-1907) Born in Sunnidale and died there of consumption. She never married, was a dress maker and still lived at home with her parents. She is buried in Glencairn cemetery with her parents.
    9. Bert (1886-1975) married Elizabeth Grant (1894-1973) in Barrie 1913. They moved to Aspdin, Muskoka but both are buried in Glencairn cemetery, Simcoe County along with one of their sons John Bruce (1919-1970)
    10. Maud (1886-?) It is possible that Bert and Maud are twins.
  8. Thomas Middlebrook (1841-1918) married Ellen Schell (1845-1928) Thomas was a farmer and he and his family eventually left Sunnidale to move to Morrison Twp. In 1871, Thomas and his family were sharing 100 acres with his brother Joshua. To go along with Thomas' wheat, potatoes and barley, Thomas owned a tanning mill.

    2. Mary (1866-?) married Thomas Schell in Gravenhurst 1883
    3. Hannah J. (1869-1956) married Harper Middlebrook (1864-1939) in Gravenhurst 1889.
    4. Benjamin (1870-1946) married Ellen Schell (1881-1943) in Gravenhurst 1899.
    5. Thomas (1871-1918) married Anne Schell (1875-?) in Gravenhurst 1896. Thomas died of influenza on May 17, 1918 in Morrison twp.
    6. Harper (1875-1920) married Elizabeth Rummerfield (1880-?) in Gravenhurst 1896.
    7. Margaret (1879-1960) married George Church in Gravenhurst in 1897. George was an informant on a lot of the death records we found.
    8. Elizabeth (1883-1925) never married and had epilepsy her whole life. She died in Muskoka but is buried in Morrison twp.
    9. Nell (1888-?) married Ephram Stuthers in Gravenhurst 1911.
    10. Joseph (1889-?) married Maggie Schell in Gravenhurst 1912
  9. Harper Middlebrook (1843-?) married Jane Fitchett (1850-?) Harper and Jane are in Glencairn cemetery in unmarked graves with his mother Hannah Middlebrook (nee Harper) Confused? In 1871 (according to the census) Harper was single and living on a farm with his mother Hannah and his sister Hannah. They were living in Sunnidale but the census did not state if Harper was a tenant or employee of the land. Their children:

  10. Edward Middlebrook (1847-1920) The only info we have is from the 1881 Sunnidale census and a death record. In 1881, Edward was single and his widowed mother Hannah was living with him. It appears Edward never married and he died at Lot 6 Con. 1 in Sunnidale. He is in an unmarked grave in Glencairn cemetery.

    1. Jane Fitchett (Dec. 15, 1876--June 28, 1963) married Albert Sopher(b. Nov. 3, 1867--September 29, 1949) on August 27, 1894
  12. Hannah had a second husband, William Kaake (b. 1852) whom she married on September 10, 1872.
